Then and now
I come from it being fine to not understand something,
I come from it being fine to cry, and show emotion,
I come from gymnastics and cartwheels and handstands and tumbles,
Now I have friends who I can say anything too, and friends who’ll hold onto every slip I have for years,
Now there’s some people who are fun, but lots of my year seems from the same mould,
Now being a hippie, and a nerd is shamed,
now I must pretend I’m something I’m not, otherwise I won’t fit in.
My Brother
I love my brother he’s very special to me,
I love my brother he’s the sun to our solar system,
Just like the sun he lights up every room,
My little brother his laugh is a drug,
My brothers like a magnet he pulls the best out of people,
I love my brother he’s very puts the special in speciality.
Rugby
Those days on December nights
When the steam is burning off our backs
Then Sundays hoping for success.
My Dad
My dad grew up in a home of girls.
A mother, 5 sisters and a older brother.
He grew up with 6 girls all together.
His own father worked hard.
So he followed.
He followed in his footsteps.
Because he was a man.
He helped his younger sisters when they were changing.
Made them feel calm and comfortable.
That’s what he did.
Because he’s a man.
He met his first love at 16.
But had to let her go.
Got his heart broken.
Because he’s a man.
Played around with other girls feelings.
Because why not?
Forgot what he said about woman also included his sisters.
Why would he say them?
Beacause he’s a man.
Met his future wife.
Had kids.
4 girls.
Treated them the same as his sisters.
Made them calm and comfortable.
Why?
Because he’s a man.
But why did he really do all this?
Because he’s a Human.
My Family
My family is amazing
When I’m with them I feel at home
Just knowing that their always there makes me never feel alone
My granny she’s the greatest, the sweetest thing around
She always gives me what I want even when mam says I’m not allowed
Mam and Dad are always there to give me what I need they bring me everywhere that I need or want to me
My brothers always make me laugh even though they can me annoying.
Change
You can’t go back and change the beginning,
But you can start where you are and change the ending
A New Mix
The boys of the pitch,
Unruly and rich.
Out of sight of his light,
Strung up in a twist.
Of old ideals and,
A new mix.
Let go of the of the plantation
And embrace new sensation.
Never Know
The man I am not is someone likes to write poems
They are hard and confusing
I never know what to write.
Golf
I am not someone who can hit a drive straight
Or someone who can putt very well.
But I am someone who can try my best and hit my irons straight.
Athletics
I do hammer throwing
I won big my first year doing it
Me and my coach never looked back since.
Respect
I won but I lost
1st place club record cameras flashing history made
They whisper my name murmurs in the sea of people
But it’s not about the win the record it’s about how I look
How I’m a lovely young girl
How I’m the image of my father
I meet his eyes in the crowd he sees me the win the golfer I see pride in his eyes
Everyone else I just see the same thing she’s so pretty
I won that day the prize the record my fathers pride
But I still lost the respect I was supposed to get.
Carney
I come from carney
Where pints are drank
And roads are abused
I love/hate carney
I can’t wait to leave
And come back in many years.
My Dad
I love my dad
He is not bad
He is always there for me
He helps me see
The truth about a lot of things
He is always there
He will never stop his care
I don’t know what I’d do without him
Rugby
I played rugby since I could walk
Always felt an escape
When I tied the laces on my boots
That’s why i think rugby is the way.
My Granny
My granny has a heart of gold
And makes dinner that feel like home
She makes me laugh until I can’t breathe
She listens to my problems and gives me advice –
If I have problems her first response is who do I have to beat up
She’s always been fun and helpful – she’s a 60- something that acts like a sixteen year old but she’s so funny and loving
And that why I love her and am so fortunate to have her in my life
Love u granny.
My Life
My life is busy,
but I like it that way,
with school in the morning
and judo at the end of the day.
I wake up early,
get ready and go,
sometimes feeling tired,
but I still have to go.
School can be stressful,
with homework to do,
but my friends make me laugh
when I’m feeling upset
Then comes the traveling,
bags packed and ready to go,
heading off to judo,
not always knowing how it will go.
Different places,
different mats, different faces,
lots of hard training
and long car journeys to the competition
I get nervous sometimes,
before I step on the mat,
but I take a deep breath
and just focus on that.
Win or lose,
I know I’ve tried my best,
and every competition
is another little test.
Between school, judo
and traveling around the world ,
life can get hectic,
but I love what I’ve found.
I’m still growing,
still learning each day,
and making memorie
Respect
I like when lads are genuine
Not when they slag and shove
I don’t just admire when they respect girls –
But when they respect each other
I don’t care how many push-ups they can do
Or how far they can puck a sliothar
I’d take a few kind words
And an honest smile
Over an emotionless robot
Any day.
A Bass Against Silence
A systematic indifference proclaimed by the privileged
The endearing deception of a hierarchy
The demolition of adequate minds
The cracked compass of morality dependant on a flock
A swelling skull with minimal comprehension
The futility of our dependency and disregard for souls
The contrast of crimson against quarts
A bass against silence
My Best Friend
My best friend keeps my sane,
Before her all my days were mundane.
I bring her my grief,
And I leave with so much relief.
Cliffside
The sea is rough and the tide is tough,
The waves brushing up against the cliff side.
Sure enough, the rocks ware away
As time goes by , day to day.
The waves are splashing,
Against the rocks they’re clashing
Where the old man sits on the cliffside.
He watches and watches, day to day,
As the rocks wear away.
Be
Be honest
Be holy
Be awesome
And also be like grateful.
Awesome
Be kind
Be honest
Find who you are
Be truthful
Be respectful
And don’t hide your true self
Everyone is equal and deserves a second chance
Deeeee Jayyy Kaled
Biology / Identity
Biology is you have to be
And identity is a road so free
To pick to suit with he’s and she’s
And they’s and it’s
‘Cause who gives a shit
It’s about you
Not him or who
Or he and she or what they all say
Support and believe in your own way
Don’t follow the crowd, prejudiced parade
Be who you are, don’t be afraid
I Is Me
I is smart
I is creative
I is empathetic
I is beautiful
I is kind
I is determined
I is good at what I do
I is happy
I is me.
I Am Me
I’m smart in certain situations
I’m my own person
I don’t let people tell me what to do
I am determined
I’m nice
I don’t give up very easily with certain things
Sometimes I can get pissed off very easily
If someone is annoying me I will say it to them
I can be very careless.
Legend
He walks in like he owns the sky
With a laugh that could make the darkest clouds fly.
He’s one of a kind, there’s no one quite the same
Where he goes, you can bet they’ll know his name
A legend in the making
with mischief to blame.
Me is Me
I am gorgeous
I am beautiful
I am kind
I am smart
I am determined
I am amazing
I am creative
I am fab.
Awesome
I am really awesome
I like hurling
Women are epic
I dislike dishonesty.
Shine
The tree sways
Like the summer bay.
On a boat with lots and lots of hay
The waves crash down and splash around,
While the fish swim through the mermaids crown.
While the sun shines bright
And the birds take flight.
Be Honest
Be honest
Be useful to older people
The sea is rough and let the tide be tough
Let the wave splash up against the wall side and when it does be ready to get plashed
Always be mindful of other people especially older psychos
When the sun shine bright and the bird flys high.
The Meaning
I guess it gets better with age,
But it’s the same feeling everyday,
When I open my eyes in the early morning,
And feel that pit in my stomach while yawning,
It’s a pain I feel when I closed my eyes and dream,
Dream of the life I wish could be,
It’s lonely, it’s hard and an empty feeling,
And I don’t understand what’s the meaning,
The meaning of why I feel this way,
And if someday it will ever go away?
Silage
The smell of silage, can’t be beat
The fresh smell of grass is the best that you can get
The cows will love it , and if they don’t they can shove it.
Bulking up the heifers with lovely meal
And in a few months they will be of to Lidl
Growing Up
Growing up involved a lot of moving for me.
To be honest, if i had the option to stay anywhere i have lived, I wouldn’t.
Nowhere felt like home to me, and part of me feels like ill always be searching a for special place where i feel i belong.
I’m not sure if its a thing of the memories attach to the places I’ve lived, or if it just never felt right.
I’m not entirely sure if this feeling is foreign or everyone else feels the exact same way.
The house I was born in never felt entirely mine,
Maybe i just found it too lonely without my mother there
Or maybe it had something to do with my dislike for my father who lived there.
I’ve forgotten most of the houses I’ve lived in
I can only remember the feeling of them never feeling truly welcoming.
Better
What it’s like to be me is terrible because I am a heavy overthinker
And it really sucks because I think that something might be bad even though everything would be ok,
And growing up there was a problem with alcohol with my family especially my mam, but she’s better now Growing up there was always shouting and at least one person drunk per night and it was terrible,
Even now i mostly overthink and it can mess up my sights on things and it can mess everything with friends and family but now a days I don’t overthink much which is better.
What a Time
What a time to be alive, you hear from parents, grandparents and older generations.
They say our lives are so much better than theirs ever were.
“You have better education, technology and opportunities” you hear them say, yet they ignore all the bad bits.
It’s normalised to hear comments on your body, your personality and how much you eat from men.
“Boys will be boys” they say, making excuses constantly.
A girl gets assaulted or abused and people say “she asked for it” or “look at what she was wearing”.
Most women have experienced sexual assault or harassment and they don’t even know it.
It happens so often and is so normalised, that they don’t even realise this is bad.
You get scared to go on a sleepover if they have a brother near your age, if you aren’t like their sister.
You’re scared to walk at night, especially in the cities, countrysides are slightly safer.
Men take and take a lot from girls without realising.
They take your confidence by making comments, take your reputation by calling you a slut.
They laugh at mental problems as if not important.
They call out your scars and use that as a reason to slag you.
Girls aren’t much better today.
You hear your parents talking about their schooldays, you never hear their problems.
Girls can clique up, turn easily and hold grudges
They’re smart little fuckers, they make subtle little comments.
They disguise their insults as compliments and then laugh behind your backs.
This is your reminder that salt and sugar look the same.
The Cat
The cat was wearing a hat
It was so scary I fell over the mat
The cat took of his hat to show his bat
The bat he chased me with
The bat I was beaten with
I’m so scared that I took the cat’s hat
He was so mad, he purred like a cat.
What It’s Like to Be Me
It’s difficult because my family doesn’t like me as a person, they just put up with me.
My friends make subtle homophobic and sexist comments and don’t even apologise.
My friends make fun of me because I have a comfort streamer that I always watch.
They mean well but I don’t like the jokes.
I have to hide who I actual from a lot of my own family because they wouldn’t accept.
I wouldn’t change it for anything because I can be me.
My Dad
Some people say that their dad is their hero.
My Dad is my hero but he’s also my best friend,
Sometimes he’s strict and I usually don’t understand why
But I know now that deep down he’s just a big friendly guy.
What I Am
I collect things, I’m childish at heart.
It’s something that won’t tear me apart.
I’m kind and I’m timid.
I’m honest yet frigid.
It’s good, to be you from the start.
The people, I hang with are cruel.
I don’t fit in with their rules.
I support what I am,
And what I think society crams.
Into a minority pool.
I feel, like an outcast
Yet I feel I can come out with a blast.
I have my own skill
And I’ll do what I will
To feel like my own.
Be Honest
Be honest with the things in your life
As baloo said forget about your strife
Be honest to who you are
Don’t be defined by a fancy car
Just because you don’t fit in
Doesn’t mean you cannot win
So don’t be fake and just be yourself
And that’s how you land on the highest shelf.
Understood
I don’t come from where I live
I was young when I came to Ireland, 3 years old
I knew I was different than others
I hung out with girls even though I was a boy, didn’t like sports and was more flamboyant
I don’t remember a time where I was considered “normal” so I had to fit in with “abnormality”
I had to ignore the looks I got growing up, it’s hard to blend in when you stand out
Wished I disappeared every time I got them though
Secondary school came and a lot of things changed.
The looks stayed the same but I met new people where they understood me for who I am
The looks stayed the same though.
Sister
My life is not that hard, but my sister’s is
She complains day after day and I think it’s annoying
But she’s my sister and I still love her anyways
Even when her gifts have no thought
And she refuses to clean
And she uses my things
I know that she loves me still.
I know that she wants us to have things in common
And I know that she’s trying
But sometimes it doesn’t matter. And for that I am guilty
Because I know that her life is harder than mine.
Myself
I stare upon the phallus I drew on a golden brown desk
The teachers stares at me with disgust, yet a small smile can still be seen
Remembering all the mistakes I’ve made, every single one I’ve ever made
The man I wish i was, thinking of how far I’ve come.
Yet I keep on going forgetting about the guilt and embarrassment until I lie in bed and cry to myself.
Deep Down
The man I am not is some cool lad who is trying to say and do the same stuff as the other popular lads in the year.
This summer was really hard and tuff on me and I was always struggling with it and never dealt with it.
Never said it to them but I’d say it to my mother every now and again.
I’ve kind of felt like I’m being fake to myself still talking to them and not giving out about it to them
Deep down I’m a really good nice funny family person and I’m not that in shcool
